Alkmaar are the only team in the Eredivisie who haven't played all 3 of their games yet, and even with that they occupy 11th place. Alkmaar played their opening game at Waalwijk, which ended in a 1-0 defeat, with Kramer scoring for the home side at the end of the first half. Alkmaar then went on to play in the preliminary round of the Europa League, which they got into thanks to their 3rd place finish last season, however in the preliminary round Alkmaar came up against a strong Scottish side Celtic, who they were unable to progress past and Alkmaar will only play in the Conference group.
