An ambitious OGC Nice, coached since June by renowned manager Christophe Galtier, will visit the ground of champions Lille. Last year, he managed Lille, with whom he celebrated a sensational title. 

Basic information, news and team form

As well as the manager, Lille has lost several mainstays over the summer, with goalkeeper Maignan and midfielder Soumaré gone, and other departures are still being discussed. Galtier's successor on the bench is, rather surprisingly, Jocelyn Gourvennec, former manager of Guingamp or Bordeaux, whose last engagement dates back to 2019. However, he started his career at Lille solidly, as his charges beat PSG 1-0 in the Super Cup in early August. However, the start of the league was not so good. Lille was even down 1:3 at Metz, but eventually, thanks to a sending-off and a last-minute goal from Yilmaz, they at least drew 3:3. 

Nice, on the other hand, strengthened significantly over the summer. In addition to manager Galtier, players like Justin Kluivert, Mario Lemina and Calvin Stengs also reported for the south of France. OGC's goal is clear, to improve on last year's 9th place finish and ideally qualify for the European Cups. However, the first hesitation came in the first round against Reims. Although Nice did not let their opponents do anything and kept a clean sheet, they struggled offensively and created very few chances against a determined defence. Midfielder Todibo had the biggest one after a corner kick, but his header only hit the ready goalkeeper. Nice showed they have a lot to work on going forward.

The odds favourite for the match is the home side Lille, but Betdoin algorithm sees value in betting on the away team's success. For example, a bet on Nice to score at least one goal (over 0.5) is valuable, with odds around the respectable 1.60 mark. Lille didn't exactly shine against Metz in defence and Nice has enough quality players in attack to make up for the first round setback and score. Nice, on the other hand, has to deal with several health problems, with midfielders Schneiderlin and Stengs likely to miss the game, as they did not play against Reims.
