Leverkusen vs Monchengladbach: Preview, Free Tip & Prediction
20.08.2021 13:00
Saturday's programme of the second round of the Bundesliga will finish with an attractive clash between Leverkusen and Monchengladbach. Both teams started the new season with a 1-1 draw, meaning this match is a chance for them to win their first game of the season.
Basic information, news and team form
Leverkusen stumbled to 6th place in the league last season and would like to move up the table this year. New manager Gerardo Seoane, who has successfully managed Swiss side Young Boys for the last few years, is expected to help them do so. Bayer has also been active in the transfer market, with PSG's Bakker, Brug's Kossounou and Union Berlin's Andrich heading to the west of Germany. Leverkusen won the cup match at Lokomotiv Leipzig with ease and successfully started the new season with a 3-0 win, but their league debut was not so glorious: only a 1-1 draw against Union Berlin.
Monchengladbach also had to deal with a summer change of manager. After Marco Rose left the club and joined Dortmund, Adi Hutter (who spent the last three years on the Frankfurt bench) was chosen as his successor. He has a similar squad to his predecessor, with Leipzig midfielder Hannes Wolf being the only major signing before the start of the season. Wolf was not missing from the line-up for the cup match against Kaiserslautern, where Gladbach started the new season with a 1-0 win. Like Leverkusen, the Bundesliga opener was a 1-1 draw, however Gladbach was more than happy to take this result as the opponent was Bayern Munich.
Betdoin's view of the match
According to the bookmakers, the slight favourite for the match is the home side Leverkusen and the Betdoin algorithm agrees with this opinion. The system even favours Bayer slightly more than the bookmakers and for example sees value in the Draw No Bet market. Alternatively, goal bets like over 2.5 or BTS can be interesting, but the odds for these are quite low.
Absentees and probable line-ups
There are several injured or uncertain footballers on both sides. Bayer will miss Bellarabi, Tapsoba, Fosu-Mensah or Alario, while Gladbach will miss Doucouré or Manu Koné. Adi Hutter will probably have to do without key players Zakaria and Embolo, however both are already in training.
Leverkusen - estimated line-up:
Hradecky - Frimpong, Tah, Kossounou, Bakker - Paulinho, Aranguiz, Demirbay, Amiri - Diaby, Schick
Monchengladbach - estimated line-up:
Sommer - Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Bensebaini - Hofmann, Neuhaus, Kramer, Stindl - Thuram, Plea
