Leicester vs Manchester City: preview, free tip and statistics
10.09.2021 13:00
After a two-week forced break, the English Premier League is back in full swing. The Foxes will welcome the blue side from Manchester on Saturday afternoon on their home ground.
Background information, news and team form
Leicester can be overjoyed with their start to the season. After triumphing in the Fa Cup final against late Champions League winner Chelsea, the Foxes managed to add another trophy to their cabinet in the form of the Community Shield. They are also doing relatively well in the Premier League. At the beginning of the season they managed to beat Wolves 1-0, then in the next game they lost 4-2 at West Ham, but it should be noted that Leicester played from the 40th minute with a red card and still managed to score two goals with 10 men. In their last league game before the national break, Leicester managed to win 1:2 at the ground of newcomer Norwich and thus enter this match in great form.
Manchester City will be looking to make amends for their loss to Leicester in the English Super Cup at Wembley after a 1-0 penalty from former Citizens man Kelechi Iheanacho. Manchester City after a poor opening, losing the aforementioned Super Cup and subsequently at Tottenham's ground by the same 1-0 scoreline is pulling a streak of two wins, both of which ended by gifting an unpopular goal to the opponent, against Norwich and Arsenal, so it will be extremely interesting to see if this streak will stretch or if the Foxes will put a stop to the hungry Citizens.
Betdoin's view of the match
Despite losing their last match against each other at the Community Shield, Citizens enter this match as the odds-on favourites at 1.65. A win for the home side can be backed at odds of 5.7 and a draw at odds of 4.10. The bookmakers are expecting a rather cautious duel and the goal line this time around is set at over 2.5. Our clever Betdoin algorithm sees value in just such a low goal line with overtimes on goals or both teams scoring.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
Foxes head coach Rodgers revealed at the last press presentation that Jonny Evans and Jannik Vestergaard may play on Saturday, but it is unlikely that the players will start right from the start of the game. New signing from Southampton Ryan Betrand is also already available, meaning the only players Rodgers can't count on are the trio of James Justin, Wesley Fofana and Ayoze Perez.
As for Manchester City, despite injury concerns over stopper Laporte, he should be available to Pep Guardiola. Kevin de Bruyene and Phil Phoden are slowly getting back up to speed in invidual training but are unlikely to be available for this game. Manchester City, however, will be missing their mainstay in goal and striker, namely Ederson and Gabriel Jesus due to the suspension of the Brazilian players because of an incident that took place during the national break. Replacement young goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who would normally replace the Brazilian in goal, has tested positive for coronavirus, so it is likely that the experienced Scott Carson will start in goal.
Leicester - estimated line-up:
Schmeichel - Ricardo, Evans, Soyuncu, Thomas - Tielemans, Ndidi - Albrighton, Maddison, Barnes - Vardy.
Manchester City - estimated line-up:
