Nantes and Lyon will open the fourth round of the French Ligue 1 on Friday night. The hosts failed to win the Brittany derby against Rennes last time out and recorded their first loss of the season, while Lyon only drew at home to Clermont. 

Basic information, news and team form

Nantes narrowly saved themselves in the league last year as they were not far from relegation to Ligue 2 in the play-offs against Toulouse. Their goal this season is a quiet mid-table finish, far from relegation worries. Nantes did not have a bad start to the season, putting in a solid defensive performance against Monaco (1:1) in the first round and then beating Metz 2-0 at home in the second round. Last weekend, however, FCN failed to make it count in the traditionally heated Brittany derby. Nantes did not show much going forward and had to settle for a 0:1 defeat at Rennes. 

Lyon is having a downright miserable start to the new season. The 1-1 draw with Brest in the opening round was not that bad, but the 0-3 trashing at Angers a week later definitely was. Especially when it was accompanied by disputes in the locker room, because of which the experienced stopper Marcelo was relegated to the B team. In the third round against Clermont, OL had a chance to calm down their fans, but even that did not work. For a long time it looked like a straightforward match, with Lyon leading 3-1 at half-time and having a number of chances to score again after the break. However, they missed them all and that allowed Clermont to get back into the game, culminating in a 3-3 draw in injury time. The Lyon players headed to the dressing room while listening to the boos of their fans again. 

 

 

Betdoin's view of the match 

Lyon's games usually encourage over betting, but Betdoin's algorithm found value in the opposite approach this time. For example, the Under 3.5 goals line has value, with odds around 1.50. Nantes' forward line is not up to the quality of Angers or Clermont, so Lyon's defence could, for once, handle the match relatively easily. But at the same time, FCN is not bad at all at the back, which it has shown in this year's duels with Monaco or Rennes. Thus, rather than another shootout, a siege of the home goal with only a few chances might be the case. 

 

 

Absentees and estimated line-ups 

Nantes' key striker Kolo Muani was injured in the second round against Metz and is very likely to miss the game against Lyon. The home side will also have to do without midfielder Cyprien, who is still waiting for his first start after joining the club during summer. Lyon manager Peter Bosz should have almost the entire squad at his disposal and Xherdan Shaqiri, a fresh signing from Liverpool, could already be in contention to start.
