Inter had a fabulous last season. Italian coach Antonio Conte managed to end the nine-year dominance he started with Juventus and managed to return the Italian champions' trophy to Inter after 11 years. You would think that after such an achievement, Conte would sign a new long-term contract and build a new successful era for Inter on that success. However, the stars were not in favour of this possibility, and after an unsuccessful meeting with the management where Conte was told that he would be sold instead of strengthened due to the club's heavy debt and large financial losses due to Covid 19, the two parties parted ways and Simone Inzaghi became the new Inter coach. The club also left the best Serie A right-back Achraf Hakimi, who moved for 60 million euros to PSG, and Inter's top scorer Romelu Lukaku, who moved for 100 million euros to Chelsea in London. Simone Inzaghi will have a tough job defending the Scudetto this season. The club continues to be mired in debt, the Chinese owners would like to sell the club, the owner's son and current chairman would like to keep the club and Inter have a difficult future ahead of them. 

Verona also started the season with a new coach on the bench. The charismatic Croatian Juric has been replaced by former Italian midfielder Eusebio di Francesco, who was on the bench of Sardinian side Cagliari last season. Unlike Inter, who managed to win 4-0 in the opening round, Verona failed to enter the new season victorious. After Raspadori's opening goal in the 32nd minute, Verona captain Miguel Veloso was shown a second yellow card for a hooker on Djuricic and the home side finished the second half with ten men. Despite Zaccagni scoring twice for the home side, Verona was unable to tie the game and lost to Sassuolo 2-3 in their season opener.

Defender Denzel Dumfries, who came in for Hakimi from Dutch side PSV, could also make his debut already. Lautaro Martinez missed the opening game at the San Siro due to his late involvement in the preparation after the Copa America, but he should already be available for this game. Danish midfielder Eriksen is still sorting out whether he will be able to play with his pacemaker and Gagliardini and Sanchez are out with long-term injuries. Verona are not reporting any new player injuries. Thus, the only player that di Francesco will not be able to count on is the out-of-sport captain Miguel Veloso.
