Baník Ostrava vs Zlín: Preview, Free Tip & Prediction

One of the three duels of Sunday's Fortuna Liga programme will be the clash between Ostrava and Zlín from 16:00. Both teams had a very similar start to the new season, narrowly missing out to strong opponents in the opening round: Ostrava fell 0:1 in Jablonec, Zlín lost to Slavia at home with the same result. This match is a chance for both of them to get their first points in this season. 

Basic information, news and team form

After the end of last season, Baník kept the young manager Smetana, who replaced the sacked Lubos Kozel in February and led the team to 8th place. For the new season, Smetana's squad has been modified quite significantly: gone are Stronati, Fillo, Holzer or Mena, while Lischka, Almási, Budínský or Klíma are the new faces in the line-up. At least on paper, Baník's attack was considerably strengthened, but in the first round against Jablonec Ostrava paid for not converting chances and despite a solid performance had to accept a 0:1 defeat.

Although Zlín is no longer led by ex-Baník Bohumil Páník, the connection with Ostrava is still strong. Most of the summer reinforcements came from the squad of Sunday's opponent: the trio of Fillo, Hrubý and Reiter will be motivated against their former teammates. Zlín, on the other hand, left key stopper Buchta and guest players such as Potocny and Janošek. Under the leadership of relatively inexperienced manager Jan Jelinek, Zlín's main goal will be a calm rescue, but the team lost to Slavia in the opening round.

Betdoin agrees with the bookmakers on the clear favouritism of Baník, but the bookmakers' odds on a clean sweep don't offer much value. On the other hand, the system has found value in goal unders, for example at under 2.5, where the odds are above 1.90. The last mutual match did end in a goal shootout, but now both teams are in a different situation and a cautious match would not be a surprise. 

 

 

Absentees and estimated line-ups 

There are several players on both sides who are uncertain due to injuries. The home team will most likely be missing Juroška, Kukučka and Budinský, while the visitors will have to do without Jawa and maybe even Filla. Reiter will not be able to play for Zlín due to the clubs' agreement.
