The ninth round of the Premier League kicks off on Friday night with Arsenal vs Aston Villa. Both teams are in the bottom half of the table, but the form is on the side of the Gunners, who have not lost for five rounds in a row.

Arsenal entered the 21/22 season in the worst possible way. They fell 0:2 to newcomers Brentford in the first round, then lost to Chelsea by the same scoreline and then suffered a 0:5 debacle at Manchester City in the third round. Manager Mikel Arteta quickly found himself under the pressure he had already experienced last season. However, the Gunners benefited from the September international break. After it ended, Arsenal picked up two narrow wins over Norwich and Burnley, and even a 3-1 derby triumph against Tottenham at the end of September. Arsenal followed up a run of three wins in a row with two draws, most recently a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace in the last round. The Gunners were 1-0 up at half-time, but ultimately had to rescue a point in the 5th minute of stoppage time. 

Aston Villa have only one point less than Arsenal after eight rounds, but it's only enough for 13th place. The best result so far was at the end of September, when the team from Birmingham won sensationally at Manchester United 1-0. But the triumph at Old Trafford is also the last duel in which the Villans earned points. They have recorded two defeats in the last two rounds, most recently last weekend at home against Wolves 2-3. Aston Villa were still leading 2-0 at the start of the 80th minute, but they completely failed in the end of the match and the visitors completed the turnaround with a goal in the 5th minute of stoppage time.
