Leeds vs Liverpool: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
11.09.2021 20:00
The English Premier League has only one game on Sunday's schedule, but it will offer a very attractive duel. Leeds United, who are still waiting for their first win of the season, will host Liverpool.
Basic information, news and team form
Bielsa's Leeds were one of the more entertaining teams in the Premier League last season and finished 9th in the final table, a very good result for a newly promoted side. Second seasons among the elite are often the toughest, and Leeds' entry into the new season so far confirms that assumption. The Whites suffered a 1:5 trashing at Manchester United in the first round, a week later they only drew 2:2 at home with Everton and in the third round they had to be happy with another point, as they saved a 1:1 draw at Burnley only at the end of the game. It is still early days, but Leeds will have to start winning soon or they will have a difficult few months ahead.
After finishing 3rd last year, Liverpool would like to once again win the title they celebrated in 2019/20. Although midfielders Wijnaldum and Shaqiri left the squad, the defensive ranks were instead strengthened by the highly-rated Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konaté. In addition, Virgil van Dijk has recovered from a long-term injury and LFC thus entered the season with optimism. The league opener resulted in two smooth wins with clean sheets, 3-0 over Norwich and 2-0 over Burnley. The first stern test came in Round 3 against Chelsea and Liverpool only managed something which could be called a half-win: they drew 1-1 and kept their unbeaten record, but at the same time failed to take advantage of a long powerplay after the sending off of the visiting James.
Betdoin's view of the match
Will Bielsa's tactical battle with Klopp offer a goal shootout? Betdoin's algorithm doesn't think so. Rather, the system has found value in under bets, which include under 3.5 goals at odds of around 1.60. Both teams are playing very demanding and intense football which doesn't give the opponent much space. It can easily happen that the players will have to work hard for every chance.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
On the Leeds side, Firpo and Klich, who spent the beginning of September in quarantine with a positive covid test, are uncertain to start. There are some question marks in Liverpool's squad as well, Firmino, Minamino and Keita might not be ready to play yet.
Leeds - estimated line-up:
Meslier - Ayling, Llorente, Cooper, Dallas - Phillips - Raphinha, Klich, Roberts, Harrison - Bamford
Liverpool - estimated line-up:
Alisson - Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson - Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago - Salah, Jota, Mané
