Liverpool vs Burnley: Preview, Free Tip & Prediction
20.08.2021 10:00
Liverpool, in their second competitive game of the season, welcome visiting Burnley to Anfield on Saturday afternoon. Liverpool will be hoping they can build on their positive start to the Premier League season.
Background information, team news and form
Liverpool began their assault on the Premier League title with a convincing 3-0 win at Norwich. Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all managed to make their mark in this match, with the last-named player becoming the first player in the Premier League to score in the opening game in five consecutive seasons. Liverpool go into this duel as clear favourites and will be looking to build on a great performance from the last round and avenge their 0-1 defeat to Burnley in January.
Burnley arrives at the impregnable fortress as a clear underdog. The only thing that plays into their hands and that they can rely on this last season's 0-1 win at this ground. Burnley is known for their defensive approach to the game, so we can expect a rather defensive performance from the visitors with many defenders in the whitewash. Burnley didn't manage to win the last home game against Brighton despite going ahead in the 2nd minute and still leading at halftime, but in the second half the Clarets couldn't keep the lead and Brighton turned the game on their side after goals from Maupay and Mac Alister.
Betdoin's view of the game
The bookmakers see this match as clearly in Liverpool's favour, valuing a win for the Reds at odds of 1.20. They also see this match as more of a goalscoring one, mainly because of Liverpool's attacking qualities and this is where they can find some value. If we add the return of the long injured Van Dijk to Liverpool's line-up to the defensive play of Burnley, who do not score many goals, then scoring a goal from Burnley's point of view becomes very difficult. That's why our clever Betdoin algorithm sees just value in the under bets at under 2.5, 3.5 and even 4.5.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
Jurgen Klopp will have to do without his number one defender Andrew Robertson, who is struggling with damaged ligaments in his ankle. His place in the line-up could thus be replaced by Greece's Kostas Tsimikas once again. Another returnee to the Reds bench should be youngster Curtis Jones, who is coming back from a concussion. Liverpool duo Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson have also been gradually gaining fitness, having featured in a friendly against Aston Villa last weekend, and so could also be available.
The Lancashire team will only be missing a pair in the shape of Dale Stephens and Kevin Logue, both of whom have recently undergone surgery to heal from their long-term injuries.
Liverpool - estimated line-up:
Alisson - Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas - Fabinho, Keita, Milner - Salah, Jota, Mane
Burnley - estimated line-up:
Pope - Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor - Gudmundsson, Cork, Westwood, McNeil - Wood, Rodriguez
