Manchester City vs Arsenal: Preview, free tip and statistics
27.08.2021 08:00
Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side face his former Manchester City mentor Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Background information, news and team form
Manchester City comes into this match after a convincing 5-0 win against Daniel Farke's Norwich. Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul got on the scoresheet with their own goal in the first half, who was complemented by the new Sky Blues acquisition Jack Grealish. In the second half, stopper Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling, and Algerian Riyad Mahrez finished the job. Manchester City has already played one game against a team from North London this season and it didn't go well for them as they lost that game against Tottenham 1-0 after a goal from Song Heung-Min Son.
Mikel Arteta's team is not doing well from the sidelines. After the improved performances from the end of last season, it's been a season of defeats again. Arsenal started their journey in the top English competition at Brentford, where they suffered an ignominious defeat from the newcomer 2-0 after goals from Canos and Dane Norgaard. There was no improved performance in the London derby in the second round, where the Gunners also lost 0-2 at home after new Blues acquisition Romelu Lukaku and offspring Reece James managed to assert themselves. The only improved performance came in the first round of the EFL Cup when the Gunners managed to crush West Bromwich 0-6. The good news for Arsenal fans may be the return of Aubameyang, who flashed a hat-trick, and another forward Lacazette, who also entered the scorers' list.
Betdoin's view of the match
Manchester City comes into this duel as favorites at odds of 1.27. Some might not like these odds completely, but we still have to take into account that even though the Sky Blues are not doing completely well, they are up against Arsenal, who are even worse off in the current fixture, and still City are the reigning Premier League champions. The goal threshold is set at its classic over 2.5. Our clever Betdoin algorithm for this match sees value more in betting on yellow cards or corner kicks.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
City will definitely miss Phil Phoden in this game, who will be recovering at least throughout the international break. There is a question mark hanging over Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyene as he still hasn't trained ahead of the duel with Norwich and there are no updates on his condition. Arsenal's strikers Aubameyang and Lacazette have returned after falling ill with Covid 19. New Gunners acquisition Ben White is still unavailable and old Real Madrid signing Odegaard should already be available after playing an hour against West Bromwich.
Manchester City's estimated line-up:
Ederson - Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo - Rodri, Gundogan, Grealish - Mahrez, Jesus, Sterling
Arsenal - estimated line-up:
Leno - Cedric, Holding, Mari, Tierney - Xhaka, Lokonga - Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe - Aubameyang
