Manchester City vs Norwich: Preview, Free Tip & Prediction
20.08.2021 12:00
Manchester City, who will be looking to avenge their defeat from the previous round, will welcome newcomers Norwich in the second round of England's top competition on Saturday afternoon.
Background information, news and team form
Pep Guardiola's squad has not got off on the right foot in the new season. In their league dress rehearsal, they lost 1-0 to Leicester Foxes in the English Community Shield match after a penalty scored by former Citizens man Kelechi Ihenacho. The Sky Blues did not fare any better in the first round on hot ground against Tottenham, losing by the same score despite the absence of home captain Harry Kane. So the Citizens have a lot to make up for and Norwich seems like the perfect opponent to fix their taste. In their last home game against Norwich, Pep Guardiola's men managed to outclass their opponents 5-0.
The visitors fared no better in the opening round as they were decimated by Liverpool on their return to the top flight of the English competition, winning 3-0 at Carrow Road after goals from Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota. However, despite the crushing defeat they received at the hands of Liverpool, manager Daniel Farke has a lot to build on. In the 2019-2020 relegation season, the Canaries managed a 3-2 win at home after goals from Mclean, Cantwell and Finn Pukki and could repeat this goal shootout at the City Stadium.
Betdoin's view of the match
The bookmakers see this game as a clear-cut home game for the Sky Blues at a ridiculous 1.11, but honestly there is nothing to be surprised about. In their last home game together, the Citizens managed to decapitate the Canaries 5-0 and, moreover, there is an unwritten rule at Manchester City that after a bad performance, the next team always gets a good cannonade. The goal lines are set very high for this match and this can be exploited in terms of value. Our clever Betodin algorithm, therefore, recommends betting the under lines.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
The Blue and Whites will certainly miss England's Messi Phil Foden due to a foot problem. Ilkay Gundogan, who suffered a shoulder injury in the clash against Tottenham, is fortunately not serious and so it is possible that he will start in this match as well. Kevin de Bruyne, who only featured from the bench at the Tottenham HotSpurs stadium is likely to be in the starting lineup, and the same may be true for the pair of Zinchenko and Stones. As for Norwich, Sam Byram is out due to thigh problems and a question mark hangs over the trio of Onel Hernandez, Premyslaw PLachetka and Jordan Hugil due to possible coronavirus infection.
Manchester City - estimated line-up:
Ederson - Walker, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko - Gundogan, Rodri - De Bruyne, Grealish, Sterling - Jesus
Norwich - estimated line-up:
Krul - Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Giannoulis - Lees-Melou, Gilmour, Rupp - Cantwell, Pukki, Rashica
