Manchester United vs Crystal Palace: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
04.12.2021 12:00
After two weeks of searching, United have a new manager. Ralf Rangnick will make his debut on Sunday afternoon against Crystal Palace.
Basic information, news and team form
After the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which came after a 1:4 defeat at Watford, the assistant Michael Carrick has temporarily taken over the management of United. And he did quite well: the Red Devils played three tough games under the former famous midfielder, not losing a single one. First, they beat Villarreal 2-0 to secure their qualification to the spring phase of the Champions League, then they defended a 1-1 draw at Chelsea and on Thursday they beat Arsenal 3-2 at home. They are 7th in the Premier League table, but the gap to the top 4 is not big. United will try to make up for it with a new manager on the bench: starting with Sunday's game, the (temporary) era of Ralf Rangnick begins in the red part of Manchester.
Crystal Palace should be a beatable opponent for the new United team. The Eagles can be a hard-to-beat team from time to time, but they also rarely pick up wins. From the end of September to the end of November, Palace pulled off an impressive run of seven games without defeat, but five of them ended in draws. Ironically, one of the Eagles' two wins came in what was clearly their toughest game, a sensational 2-0 win at Manchester City. However, their unbeaten run was cut short last weekend by Aston Villa, who won 2-1 at Selhurst Park. Palace then failed to make it through Tuesday's game at Leeds, where they fell 0-1.
Betdoin's view of the match
Will Rangnick's debut on the United bench be a winning one? The home side will go into the game as favourites, but Palace's usually quality defence could cause them problems. A scenario where the visitors keep the Red Devils in check at least in the first half and the tie is decided after the break cannot be ruled out at all. Betdoin's algorithm has marked the Over 1.5 goals in the second half as a value tip, with the odds of around 1.90 being quite tempting.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
United will play their first game under the new manager, so unexpected changes in the line-up cannot be ruled out. Rangnick will certainly not be able to use the injured Varane, Pogba and Cavani, while the status of Shaw and Wan-Bissako is uncertain. The visitors will miss the suspended Ward, while McArthur and Ferguson are injured.
Man United - estimated line-up:
De Gea - Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles - McTominay, Fred, De Beek - Fernandes - Ronaldo, Martial
Crystal Palace - estimated line-up:
Guaita - Tomkins, Andersen, Guéhi, Mitchell - Gallagher, Milivojevic, Kouyaté - Ayew, Benteke, Zaha
