On paper, the most interesting match of the opening round of the Premier League was saved for the very end. On Sunday at 17:30 Tottenham and Manchester City will face each other, two clubs that have been fighting from afar for the services of striker Harry Kane in recent weeks. 

Background information, news and team form

Tottenham didn't have an entirely happy season last year and entered the 21/22 season with a new man on the bench. Englishman Ryan Mason, who managed Spurs on an interim basis following the demise of José Mourinho, has been replaced by Nuno Espírito Santo, who made a name for himself in the Premier League as Wolverhampton manager. Tottenham's squad has undergone slight changes over the summer: gone are Lamela, Alderweireld or Foyth, while Romero, Gollini and Gil are new signings. The main transfer saga, however, concerns captain Harry Kane, who is a major interest for Manchester City. 

The Citizens won the title last year with ease, but defending it will not be easy. The competition in the form of Manchester United or Chelsea has strengthened significantly over the summer and City could not be left behind. Only one signing has come so far, but it was worth it: midfielder Jack Grealish arrived from Aston Villa for more than 110 million euros. But Man City's activity on the transfer market did not end with this signing, the next target is the aforementioned Tottenham striker Harry Kane, whose price tag could even surpass Grealish's.

City's quality in attack is well-known and the signing of Grealish will certainly not hurt it, but the home side can be dangerous up front as well. Especially in a situation where City won't have the strongest lineup yet due to absentees.

Tottenham will probably have to do without summer reinforcements Romero and Gil, both players not yet fully fit. A question mark also hangs over the start of Harry Kane, who only recently joined the training camp. But the visitors will not be without absentees either, with Foden and De Bruyne injured and stopper Laporte quarantined. The start of several players who have the summer Euro and Copa America in their legs is uncertain.
