The Hammers continue in their solid performances from last season and are within striking distance of the European positions. On Sunday afternoon their form will be tested by newcomers Brentford, who have also entered the new season in good form.

Beating West Ham this year is no easy task. The Hammers have played nine competitive games so far in the 21/22 season and lost only once: at home to Manchester United in the fifth round of the Premier League. And they were not far from a draw, all it took was for substitute Noble to convert a penalty in the last minute. In the remaining five league games West Ham collected three wins and two draws, beating Leeds 2-1 away last time out. David Moyes' team is also doing well on the European stage: in the Europa League group stage, WHU have not lost a point and are yet to concede a goal. 

Brentford achieved promotion to the Premier League last year and so far are showing that they would like to settle permanently in the elite competition. The Bees surprised Arsenal 2-0 at home in the opening round and bravely held on in the following two rounds, during which they earned draws at Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. The first loss came in the fourth round at home to Brighton, but Brentford quickly recovered with a sensational triumph at Wolves. But the most valuable result so far was achieved last weekend, when Brentford played a great game against Liverpool in front of their own fans and deservedly recorded a 3-3 draw.

The Olympic Stadium will host two teams that rely on quality defense. Brentford in particular looked great at the back during the opening rounds, so West Ham will have no easy task in confirming their role as favorites.
