Brest vs PSG: Preview, Free Tip & Prediction
19.08.2021 10:00
The third round of the French Ligue 1 will open on Friday night with Brest vs PSG. The hosts are still waiting for their first win of the season, but they would probably settle for a point against the Parisian side.
Basic information, news and team form
Brest swapped managers with rivals Montpellier in the summer and so enter the new season with the experienced Michel Der Zakarian on the bench. The native of Yerevan, Armenia, has always been known as a very defensive manager, but last year with Montpellier he showed that he can lead his teams to the attacking game as well. Der Zakarian's first two games on the Brest bench were relatively successful, with his charges extracting two 1-1 draws from tough draws against Lyon and Rennes. Against PSG they will face their biggest test yet.
PSG lost 0:1 to Lille in their first competitive match of the season and missed out on the Super Cup, but Mauricio Pochettino's charges made a good start to the league. The first win came against newcomer Troyes (2:1), followed by a home triumph over Strasbourg (4:2) last weekend. PSG is struggling with a number of absences at the beginning of the season, missing most of the players who played in the summer at the Euro and Copa America. However, their return is slowly approaching, which is also the case for Lionel Messi.
Betdoin's view of the match
The favourite for the match probably doesn't need to be discussed, with the odds on PSG below 1.30. The goal bets are fairly accurate according to Betdoin's calculations, but the system managed to find value in the corner kick bets, specifically at over 9.5. PSG usually record quite a few corners, especially against defensively playing opponents, but Brest are not bad at corners either. So far this season, they recorded 4 corners against Lyon and 6 against Rennes.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
Brest lost midfielder Belkeblu to injury in the first round, besides him Herelle and Lasne also have health problems, but they haven't started this season. PSG will definitely have to do without Bernat and Ramos, who are still in the process of recovering, while midfielder Gueye should be ready after a covid-enforced break. Lionel Messi is already training with the team, but his Friday start is unlikely and he could make his debut next week against Reims. A question mark hangs over the start of the aforementioned national team players (Verratti, Neymar, Paredes, Marquinhos, Di Maria, Donnarumma), who have been in training for almost two weeks and so it is possible Pochettino will use at least some of them in Friday's game.
Brest - estimated line-up:
Bizot - Pierre-Gabriel, Chardonnet, Brassier, Uronen - Mbock, Magnetti - Honorat, Faivre, Cardona - Mounie
PSG - estimated line-up:
Navas - Hakimi, Kehrer, Kimpembe, Diallo - Wijnaldum, Gueye, Paredes - Di Maria, Icardi, Mbappé
