Lens vs PSG: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
03.12.2021 18:00
Saturday's French Ligue 1 fixtures will conclude with Lens vs PSG. A year ago, Les Parisiens were defeated in the north of France. Will Lens surprise once again?
Basic information, news and team form
Lens surprised the whole of France last year as a newcomer and narrowly missed out on the European places. Part of the great season was the aforementioned win over PSG, who Racing beat 1-0 at home. Second seasons among the elite are often the hardest, but Lens have kept up the pace from last season so far. After 16 rounds played, they are in a very respectable 5th place, with the gap to the second Marseille standing at just three points. Racing were even within striking distance of PSG a few weeks back, but a lapse in form hasn't escaped them after all. In the last five rounds, Lens have won only once and recorded several unexpected losses, such as the 0:4 defeat at Brest. Racing couldn't even win in Wednesday's match at Clermont, where they led twice but had to settle for a point after a 2-2 draw.
PSG also only drew in Wednesday's round. The Parisians pushed at home against Nice, but in the end they were happy with the 0:0 final result. That is because the best chance of the match fell to the visiting Dolberg, who somehow managed to hit the post with a close-ranged header into an empty net. Even Lionel Messi, who showed the fans his seventh Ballon d'Or before the start of the match, did not score. However, PSG do not have to worry about not winning the game that much: the table leaders still have a comfortable lead of more than 10 points. However, one of the tougher away games of the league season awaits them at Lens.
Betdoin's view of the match
Will PSG succeed in Lens this time? The Parisians are as usual the favourite, but Lens are a very tough opponents. Especially up front, Racing have a lot of strength and should thoroughly test PSG's sometimes shaky defence. It's no surprise that one of the value picks selected by the Betdoin algorithm is BTS, i.e. both teams will score.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
The home team will miss injured winger Said, while defender Machado will probably not be ready either. PSG will be without Ramos, Neymar, Draxler and Herrera, and there is a question mark over Wijnaldum, who is recovering from an injury. Given the demanding schedule of the visitors, a slight rotation of the line-up can be expected: Hakimi or Messi could be rested.
Lens - estimated line-up:
Farinez - Gradit, Danso, Haidara - Clauss, Doucouré, Fofana, Frankowski - Kakuta - Kalimuendo, Ganago
PSG - estimated line-up:
Donnarumma - Dagba, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Bernat - Gueye, Paredes, Verratti - Di Maria, Icardi, Mbappé
