One of the highlights of the ninth round of Ligue 1 will be Sunday's clash between Lille and Marseille. Both teams could use the win since their results have not been convincing lately.

Lille failed to convince in the opening weeks of the new season and new manager Gourvennec quickly came under pressure. Just one win from the first six rounds is simply not enough for the defending champions, especially when LOSC had a relatively easy draw at the start of the season. However, the derby defeat against Lens may have given Lille a bit of a boost after all, as Les Dogues took full points from the last two rounds: first they beat Reims 2-1 at home, then they beat Strasbourg away with the same score. LOSC could have confirmed their growing form on Wednesday at Salzburg in the Champions League, but they fell 1:2 to the Austrian champions and are still waiting for their first win in this year's competition. 

Marseille, on the other hand, started the season very well, but in recent weeks the wind seems to have left their sails. In the seventh round of Ligue 1, OM only drew 0:0 at Angers and a few days later lost 2:3 at home to Lens. Sampaoli's team had a chance to improve their mood in Thursday's Europa League match against Galatasaray, but despite dominating the game, Marseille failed to score and took only a point for the 0-0 draw. However, OM fans could at least be pleased with the return of key striker Milik, who recorded his first start of the season in the match.
