Lorient vs Monaco: Preview, Free Tip & Prediction
12.08.2021 11:30
After Sparta's smooth elimination from the Champions League, Monaco is set to return to the domestic league scene. The Prince's club surprisingly faltered at home to Nantes in the first round and will be looking to pick up an important three points at Lorient on Friday night.
Basic information, news and team form
While Monaco managed the double-header with Sparta without any major problems and advanced to the 4th round of the Champions League after 2-0 away and 3-1 home wins, the start to the new league season has not been as successful. Monaco dominated the game against Nantes from the start and took the lead in the 14th minute thanks to Martins, but the visitors managed to equalise just before the break. The home side completely switched off when defending a corner kick and Castelletto, unguarded, made it 1-1. In the second half, Monaco pressed again, but against a stubborn Nantes defence they created only two good chances and had to settle for a draw.
Lorient also entered the new season with a 1-1 result, but unlike Monaco, they could be satisfied with it. On the field of Saint-Étienne, the 16th team of last season was on the defensive most of the time but still went ahead when defender Le Goff scored in the 52nd minute. Lorient's lead didn't last long though, as ASSE were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute and Khazri levelled the match. The home side's final push didn't bring another goal and Lorient took a valuable point to start the season.
Betdoin's view of the match
Betdoin's algorithm sees value primarily in goal betting. For example, it considers BTS (both teams to score) at odds of 1.80 to be a valuable bet. The offensive strength of Monaco does not need to be analyzed, but Lorient is not toothless upfront either and has in its squad, for example, striker Moffi, who scored 14 league goals last season. Monaco tends to make mistakes in defence from time to time, see the home games against Nantes and Sparta, so a tip for a goal on either side makes sense.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
Lorient left important winger Wissa this week, who transferred to Brentford in England. However, the author of last year's 10 league goals was not in the line-up during the first round, so the home side's eleven should see only minimal changes. Virtually the entire squad is available to Monaco manager Niko Kovac, but he could make a few adjustments to the lineup in view of the Champions League match against Shakhtar, which Monaco faces on Tuesday, August 17.
Lorient - estimated line-up:
Nardi - Carioca, Mendes, Laporte, Morel, Le Goff - Le Fée, Lemoine, Abergel - Moffi, Lauriente
Monaco - estimated line-up:
Nubel - Aguilar, Maripan, Badiashile, Caio - Martins, Fofana, Tchouameni, Diop - Boadu, Ben Yedder
