It would be hard to find a more heated match in France than the legendary Le Classique between Marseille and PSG. On Sunday night, the two rivals will clash in the 101st derby and it is expected to be one of the best in a long time.

Marseille are third in the table after ten rounds, ten points behind the leader PSG, but Sampaoli's team has a postponed game against Nice to play. The gap to the Parisians could have been significantly smaller, but Marseille would have had to avoid the poor series that cost them valuable points at the turn of September and October. The weak period culminated in a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Lille in Round 9, so the international break was welcomed by OM. The time off seems to have done Les Phocéens some good, as last weekend they beat Lorient 4-1 at home, despite conceding a goal early on. Marseille also recorded a solid result in the Europa League on Thursday, where they drew 0-0 against Lazio Rome. 

PSG had been keeping a 100% record in the league for a long time, but the performances on the pitch didn't match it and the first loss was only a matter of time. The luck ran out for Les Parisiens in the 9th round at Rennes, where they deservedly fell 0:2 and lost their chance for league invincibility. Last weekend, Pochettino's team got back on the winning track against Angers, but the 2-1 triumph was not easy and it was only Mbappé's penalty a few minutes before the end that earned them three points. PSG also recorded a close win in Tuesday's Champions League match, beating RB Leipzig 3-2 at home. Paris lost a quick 1-0 lead, but were saved in the second half by Messi, who scored two goals to bring the score back to the home side. 

 

 

Betdoin's view of the match 

The game in Marseille should offer a great battle with no shortage of goals. However, Betdoin's algorithm is more confident in the visitors, whose attack should give the home defence a lot of problems. Marseille's strength under Sampaoli is mainly up front, but defensively they often struggle against significantly weaker opponents than PSG.
