Monaco vs Marseille: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
10.09.2021 16:00
Two ambitious teams will meet in Ligue 1 on Saturday. Struggling Monaco will host Marseille, who are still unbeaten this season. Their last trip to south of France was an eventful one, with their match against Nice finishing in chaos.
Basic information, news and team form
Monaco were expected to be one of the main challengers to PSG this season, but their performances on the pitch have not been up to par. In the first three rounds, ASM scored a single goal and got a single point, drawing 1-1 at home to Nantes. Les Monegasques had to wait until the end of August for their first win, beating newcomer Troyes 2-1 in a close match. To make matters worse, Monaco also crashed out of the Champions League and will only play the Europa League in the autumn. Niko Kovac's team has had a very rough start to the season and the whole club hopes that things will only get better after the international break.
Marseille are doing a bit better in the beginning of the season, they haven't lost yet and have two wins and one draw. Compared to the rest of the league, they also have a game in hand: the third round match at Nice was suspended due to riots and is scheduled to be replayed on neutral ground without spectators. Monaco is only a short trip from Nice, but given the rather intimate atmosphere at its stadium, OM's trip this time could be a quiet one.
Betdoin's view of the match
Monaco have not kept a clean sheet in the league this season, but Marseille are in a similar position with three goal-rich games under their belt. Both Kovac and Sampaoli profess an attack-minded, dominant football and cannot be expected to back down from that philosophy in their duel. Betdoin's algorithm confirms this and sees value primarily in goal bets, such as the BTS opportunity, i.e. both teams will score.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
Monaco will probably have to do without Golovin and Diatta, who are dealing with health problems. Centre-back Maripán, who was late back from the national team meeting, is also unlikely to be ready. On the Marseille side, Dimitri Payet will miss the game due to injury.
Monaco - estimated line-up:
Nubel - Sidibé, Disasi, Badiashile, Caio - Martins, Fofana, Tchouameni, Diop - Ben Yedder, Volland
Marseille - estimated line-up:
Mandanda - Saliba, Alvaro, Balerdi - Lirola, Kamara, Gueye, De La Fuente - Gerson, Guendouzi - Dieng
