Monaco vs Montpellier: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
23.10.2021 13:00
One of several interesting matches in the 11th round of Ligue 1 will be played between Monaco and Montpellier on Sunday afternoon. The two teams are separated by only one point in the table, but the home team will be the clear favourite.
Basic information, news and team form
Monaco's season so far has been a roller coaster ride, with highs alternating with steep lows. Just when it looked like the principality club had finally recovered from a miserable start to the season, last weekend they lost 0-2 in a crucial match at Lyon. Monaco went to the east of France with a streak of six competitive matches without a loss in a row, but against OL they suffered from a lacklustre offensive that failed to properly threaten the vulnerable home defence. After ten rounds, ASM is only in tenth place, which is very disappointing for the club. A slight consolation can be at least the Europa League, where Monaco leads the group with 7 points after three games. Last time Les Monegasques won 2-1 at PSV on Thursday.
Although Montpellier are only 13th in the table, they are only one point behind Monaco. MHSC's best result of the season so far came last weekend, when they beat a strong Lens 1-0 at home after an excellent performance. It was the third home win of the season for La Paillade, but Olivier Dall'Oglio's team is struggling especially away from home. Montpellier have not yet won in four outings and have one of the worst away records in the league. It would be a surprise if MHSC changed that statistic in Monaco.
Betdoin's view of the match
According to the odds, Monaco are clearly favoured to win, which is something Betdoin's algorithm thinks as well. However, rather than betting on the winner of the match, the system has found value in goal markets, which include BTS, i.e. both teams will score. The home side should find it easy against the average defence of the visitors, but Montpellier should not be underestimated up front.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
Monaco have Fabregas out, while Golovin, Diatta and Sidibé all have injury problems and their start is uncertain. Montpellier will start without the suspended midfielder Ferri, while defenders Mendes and Thuler are injured.
Monaco - estimated line-up:
Nubel - Aguilar, Maripán, Badiashile, Henrique - Martins, Fofana, Tchouaméni, Diop - Ben Yedder, Boadu
Montpellier - estimated line-up:
Omlin - Souquet, Esteve, Sakho, Cozza - Savanier, Chotard - Wahi, Mollet, Mavididi - Germain
