Sunday's French Ligue 1 schedule opens shortly after lunch with Rennes against PSG. Both teams have had successful European appearances during the week, with PSG even beating Man City in the Champions League.

Rennes have been very active during the summer, spending more than €70 million in the transfer market. However, their performances in the beginning of the season did not match their ambitions. Two draws were followed by a win in the derby against Nantes, but three defeats in a row followed without a single goal scored. Rennes managed to break the offensive malaise only in the seventh round, but it was worth it: SRFC destroyed the newcomer from Clermont 6-0 at home. Last weekend, however, it was a return to the old ways, as Rennes dominated at Bordeaux, but conceded a late goal and only drew 1-1. Rennes didn't look good in Thursday's Conference League match against Arnhem either, but in the end Genesio's team earned a 2-1 win. 

PSG is going through the league season without a wobble and has full points after eight rounds. Although the Parisians have come close to losing several times, they have managed to salvage results even if their performances were not ideal. This was not the case in the Champions League match at Bruges, where PSG drew 1-1 after a poor performance and put themselves under pressure right from the start. Les Parisiens went into the home clash with Manchester City as the underdog, but the match went well and the 2-0 win was clearly the best result of the season so far for Pochettino and co. In addition, Lionel Messi scored in the match, ending the wait for his first goal in a PSG jersey.

PSG will go into the game as a big favorite, but Rennes will not be an easy opponent. The home side could be comfortable playing on the counter and they have several players in their squad who could cause problems to PSG's backline.
