Saint-Etienne vs PSG: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
27.11.2021 12:00
After losing to Manchester City in the midweek Champions League match, PSG can quickly improve their mood in a league game. In the 15th round of Ligue 1, the table leaders visit Saint-Étienne.
Basic information, news and team form
Saint-Étienne have only 12 points and are second to last in the table, but ironically they are having a good part of the season right now. ASSE managed to win their last two games, giving them their first three-point gains of the season. The traditional French club has had a horror start to the season and manager Puel has been under a lot of pressure since October: in the Round 11 match at home against Angers, for example, fans threw pyrotechnics on the pitch in protest. But quite possibly the key moment of the season came two rounds later. ASSE were still 0-2 down at home to Clermont with a quarter of an hour to go, but eventually managed to turn it around to 3-2 and claim a crucial win. They followed that up last week, beating Troyes 1-0 away. Although Saint-Étienne remain 19th in the table, the gap to mid-table has narrowed considerably.
PSG beat Nantes 3-1 at home last weekend to claim their third win in a row. Like the previous ones against Bordeaux and Lille, this one was not easy. The home side quickly took the lead and were in control of the game, but in the 65th minute goalkeeper Navas was sent off and the visitors came back into the game. They even managed to equalise, but eventually paid the price with an unlucky own goal from defender Appiah to put PSG back in front. Lionel Messi's first league goal only secured three points for the home side. PSG now have a comfortable 11-point lead at the top of the league and will travel to ASSE for another expected win. However, they will have to overcome the disappointment of Wednesday's Champions League match, in which they fell to Manchester City 1-2 after a poor performance.
Betdoin's view of the match
PSG are the clear favourites, having not lost to Saint-Étienne since 2012. However, the odds on the visitors are set very low and are not very tempting. On the other hand, the goal unders market is interesting, which is confirmed by the Betdoin algorithm analysis. The system sees a nice value in the under bets, one of the selected picks is for example the under 3.5 at around 1.70.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
The home side will be missing several injured players, including Hamouma, Sow, Moukoudi, Neyou and Gabriel Silva. But PSG are also far from a full squad: Verratti, Herrera, Draxler and Rafinha will not play. Goalkeeper Navas is suspended and Wijnaldum is uncertain, having missed the game against City for health reasons.
Saint-Etienne - estimated line-up:
Green - Macon, Camara, Kolodziejczak, Trauco - Aouchiche, Gourna-Douath, Youssouf - Boudebouz - Nordin, Khazri
PSG - estimated line-up:
Donnarumma - Dagba, Marquinhos, Kehrer, Bernat - Pereira, Gueye - Neymar, Messi, Di Maria - Mbappé
