Bayern vs Wolfsburg: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
17.12.2021 12:00
The last round of the Bundesliga in the 2021 calendar year will open on Friday evening with Bayern Munich's match against Wolfsburg. Both teams played in the Champions League group stage, but there is a huge gap between them in the league table.
Basic information, news and team form
Bayern Munich's record this season speaks for itself: 28 matches in all competitions, 24 wins. Three of the four games without a win have come on the league scene, but it has not significantly threatened FCB’s position at the top of the Bundesliga. After 16 rounds, Bayern have a comfortable six-point lead over second-placed Dortmund and few doubt that a tenth consecutive title will be celebrated in Munich at the end of the season. Nagelsmann's team may lose unexpectedly from time to time, but for every such hesitation there is a series of wins. In mid-November, for example, Bayern sensationally fell 1-2 at Augsburg, but since then have won six games in a row, including four in the league. Stuttgart were the last to suffer, losing 0:5 to FCB in Tuesday's home game.
Wolfsburg also currently have one streak going, but unlike their opponent on Friday, they can't boast much about it. Die Wölfe have lost four league games in a row and have been waiting for a win since the beginning of November, when they beat Augsburg 1-0 at home. The short-term improvement in form that was seen after the change of manager in October seems to be a thing of the past. In their last game, Wolfsburg lost 2:3 at home to Cologne, despite leading twice, and before that they failed against Stuttgart (0:2), Mainz (0:3) and Dortmund (1:3). It wasn't much better in the Champions League either. Although Wolfsburg had a playable group, they managed only one win in six games and a 1:3 defeat to Lille in the final round condemned them to last place in the table.
Betdoin's view of the match
Wolfsburg could hardly get a worse opponent than a rampant Bayern in their current miserable form. So rather than discussing whether the home side will win, the question of how many goals comes in the focus. Due to FCB's scoring form, the odds on the overs are set very low, so according to Betdoin's algorithm, the under bets are more likely to pay off. For example, the under 4.5 goals can be bet at odds of 1.50. Although the visitors will face a very tough test, their defense is not bad and could prevent a debacle.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
The home team will miss the injured Coman, while Choupo-Moting and Kimmich are battling the effects of Covid. Midfielders Tolisso and Goretzka are uncertain to start, both have had health problems recently. Wolfsburg won't be at full strength either: Otávio, Williams, Mehmedi and Phillip are out and Roussillon has to serve a card suspension.
Bayern - estimated line-up:
Neuer - Upamecano, Hernández, Sule - Gnabry, Musiala, Roca, Davies - Muller, Sané - Lewandowski
Wolfsburg - estimated line-up:
Casteels - Brooks, Lacroix, Guilavogui - Baku, Vranckx, Arnold, Gerhardt - Lukébakio, Waldschmidt - Weghorst
