Dortmund vs Hoffenheim: Preview, free tip and statistics
26.08.2021 10:00
The third round of the top German league opens on Friday night with a duel between the two best offensive teams in the Bundesliga at the moment.
Background information, news and team form
Marc Rose's squad hasn't exactly entered the new season in the best of form. At the start of the season, BVB managed to win the German Cup 0:3 against third-tier Wehen after a hat-trick scored by Norway's star goal scorer Erling Haaland and in the first round of the Bundesliga, they managed to beat visitors Frankfurt 5:2 at home. Then came a 1-3 defeat in the German Super Cup, where the Yellow and Black lost after two goals from Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, followed by an unexpected 2-1 loss at Freiburg. It was such matches against opponents from lower positions in the table that cost Borussia the title in the past seasons. If Reus and co. intend to attack the top ranks this season, they will have to improve in these matches.
The visitors from Baden-Württemberg arrive in a decidedly better mood. They managed to advance to the second round of the DFB Cup at the start of the season when they managed to get past Viktoria Cologne in extra time after goals from Dabur and Kramaric. The visitors from the Kraichgau region were able to build on this success on the ground of Augsburg, whom they beat 0:4. In this match, the following goals were scored: Bruun Larsen, Rudy, Rutter, and Adamyan. In the last league match, Hoffenheim could not win and even though they were leading 2:1 at half-time, they could not keep the lead against Union Berlin and only drew 2:2 at home. After Hoffenheim finished 11th out of the European Cup last season, Sebastian Hoeness will surely want to get his team into the Europa League at least.
Betdoin's view of the match
The home side, despite not being in the best of form, enter this match as the bookmakers' favorites at odds of 1.48. The goal threshold has been chosen at 3.5 overs for this match and the bookmakers, thus, expect plenty of goals from both sides involved. The Betdoin algorithm sees the value in this match more in the underdog bets or in a bet on the visitors without a draw. A possible Asian handicap bet on the away team could also be an interesting option.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
The home side's main problem is defensive, with defenders Marcel Schmelzer, Mateu Morey, Dan-Axel Zagadou, and Soumaila Coulibaly remaining out with knee injuries and the presence of defender Schulz still uncertain. Also missing will be Thorgan Hazard, who has an ankle injury. Giovanni Reyna should be available, despite his injury from the last game.
The visitors' squad remains unchanged and will thus miss: Havard Nordtveit due to a thigh injury, Benjamin Hubner with an ankle injury, and Ermin Bicakcic with a knee injury. Pavel Kadeřábek remains a question mark for this game due to a calf injury and Ihlas Bebou is recovering from Covid 19 according to the latest reports.
Dortmund - estimated lineup:
Kobel - Can, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro - Bellingham, Witsel, Dahoud - Reyna - Haaland, Reus
Hoffenheim - estimated line-up:
Baumann - Akpoguma, Posch, Vogt, Raum - Rudy, Stiller - Baumgartner, Kramaric, Bruun Larsen - Rutter
