On Saturday afternoon, the Bundesliga will offer a clash of two heavyweights of German football. Both Leverkusen and Dortmund are among the candidates for a top 3 finish, so the match will be a big test of their current form.

Leverkusen entered the era of manager Gerard Seoane successfully, with three wins and one draw in four competitive matches. First, Bayer achieved a smooth 3-0 win over Lokomotiv Leipzig in the cup and then started picking up points on the league scene. In the first round they only drew 1-1 against Union Berlin, but a week later Leverkusen dismantled Gladbach 4-0 at home. The following week Bayer won 4-1 at Augsburg, continuing their hot streak. Schick and co. thus went into the national break holding second place in the table. 

Dortmund also introduced a new manager in the summer, but Marco Rose is experiencing a slightly less idyllic start to the season. In the cup his charges handled Wehen 3-0 and in the first league round they blasted Frankfurt 5-2, but then came the first setbacks. First BVB fell to Bayern 1:3 in the Super Cup, then a few days later in the league they surprisingly lost to Freiburg 1:2. Dortmund also came close to losing points in the third round against Hoffenheim. BVB were leading 2:1 just before the end, but the visiting Dabbur equalised in the 90th minute and it looked like another disappointment. Just a minute later though, Haaland was able to get through to save Dortmund's 3-2 win in a dramatic finish.
