Mönchengladbach vs Dortmund: Preview, Free tip & Prediction
25.09.2021 12:00
Saturday's clash between Mönchengladbach and Dortmund could be also called the Marco Rose derby. The highly-rated manager spent two years on the Gladbach bench before joining BVB this summer, so it will be a return to familiar territory for him.
Basic information, news and team form
Gladbach missed out on European places last year by one point, but this year it looks like a fight for a much more modest goal will be the case: survival. Borussia have just four points in five rounds and are only 16th in the table. At the start of the season, things looked promising, with Die Fohlen surprising Bayern at home in the first round and earning a valuable 1-1 draw. However, Gladbach earned points only once in the next four games, when they beat Bielefeld 3-1 at home. Borussia's last defeat came last weekend in Augsburg, where they failed to play the role of favourites and lost 0:1 with an 80th minute goal.
Dortmund, on the other hand, are having a great season so far, winning four out of five league games and also successfully starting the Champions League campaign, beating Besiktas 2-1 in their opening group match. Borussia have already scored 17 league goals, with Erling Haaland contributing to 11 of them (7+4). The last team who struggled to contain BVB' attack was Union Berlin, who managed to score twice in Dortmund, but was still beaten 4:2 by the home side.
Betdoin's view of the match
Dortmund have offered one goal shootout after another this season and Betdoin's algorithm predicts that this trend will continue against Mönchengladbach. Although the home side has only scored five goals, they create chances regularly: according to the xG metric, they even have the sixth best attack in the league. BVB can be vulnerable at the back, so the match should offer goals on both sides.
Absentees and estimated line-ups
Gladbach's injury list was reduced over the week, with players like Bensebaini, Ginter and Embolo now ready to help their teammates on the pitch. On the other hand, the injured Lainer will still be missing, and Hofmann's start is uncertain. Dortmund don't have a full squad either, with Can, Brandt and possibly Reyna out.
Mönchengladbach - estimated line-up:
Sommer - Scally, Ginter, Elvedi, Bensebaini - Kramer, Neuhaus - Stindl, Hermann, Wolf - Plea
Dortmund - estimated line-up:
Kobel - Meunier, Hummels, Akanji, Guerreiro - Bellingham, Witsel, Dahoud - Reus - Haaland, Malen
