The main match of Saturday's Serie A programme will be played between Atalanta and AS Roma from 16:00. Both teams hold European positions in the table, but the home side are significantly better off in third place.

Just a few weeks ago it looked like Atalanta would pay for a poor start to the season and would not catch up with the league leaders. However, while the long-unbeaten Napoli and AC Milan suffered a lapse in form during November, the team from Bergamo jumped on a winning streak. Atalanta have now triumphed in six league games in a row, beating Juventus and Napoli among others, and are now third in the table, just three points behind leaders Inter. The last time Gasperini's side celebrated was last weekend, when they turned around a difficult game at Verona and extended their winning streak with a 2-1 win. The only negative in recent weeks for Atalanta has been the Champions League, where La Dea failed to make it through the crucial last round against Villarreal and had to settle for third place in the group after losing 2-3. 

While Atalanta have been playing in great form in recent weeks, AS Roma's performances have been considerably less stable. In the last round, Mourinho's charges beat Spezia 2-0 thanks to two goals from corners, but in the previous two league games they did not score a single  goal and lost to Inter (0-3) and Bologna (0-1). AS are simply not finding their ideal form, with away games contributing significantly. Out of eight outings, the Giallorossi have returned five times without points, which is a miserable record for a team with top four ambitions. The Romans are sixth in the table after 17 rounds, but the gap to fourth-placed Napoli is an abysmal eight points.

AS Roma have a tough trip on Saturday, which is confirmed by a look at the odds, which favour the home team quite heavily. The Betdoin algorithm also expects Atalanta to triumph, but the system has found value rather in the goal bets. Among them is BTS, i.e. both will score. Bergamo generally favour attacking football, but even AS Roma are not too bad going forward and Mourinho's counter-attacking style could prove useful in this match.

The home team should only miss the injured Gosens, otherwise Gasperini can count on a full squad. The visitors have more absentees, Spinazzola, Pellegrini and El Shaarawy will not be available. Afena-Gyan, who was sent off against Spezia, will not play either.
