Napoli have suffered several setbacks in the last rounds of Serie A, but still hold the first place in the table. In round 16, the leaders will be tested by an in-form Atalanta, who are on a run of four wins in a row.

Napoli have been the clear rulers of Serie A for a long time, having not lost once in the first 11 rounds (the only match they did not win was against AS Roma). In recent weeks, however, SSC has lost some momentum. First came the unexpected 1-1 home draw with Verona in round 12, and a week later the end of league invincibility with a 2-3 loss to Inter Milan. Last weekend, the Partenopei faced a tough match at home against Lazio, but the table leaders handled it well and a dominant 4:0 win clearly showed that they do not want to leave the top of the table. However, the 15th round on Wednesday brought another disappointing result.. Napoli were still 2-0 up at Sassuolo in the 70th minute, only to concede twice in the final minutes to draw 2:2. 

While Napoli recorded only one win in the last four rounds, its Saturday opponent did not lose a single point in this period. Atalanta racked up a number of losses in the opening weeks of the season, but gradually managed to return to form and now resemble the team that has regularly challenged for the top of Serie A in recent years. Thanks to this streak, Atalanta have climbed up the table to 4th place, currently 5 points behind leader Napoli. A triumph on the field of the leader would put Gasperini's team fully back in the title fight.
